Possible Study of Vaccine’s Effectiveness
2. it’s never been tested on kids before so it shouldn’t be tested on kids because who knows whAt the outcome will be
Comment by Haley Duncan February 9, 2012 @ 10:50 am3. we should care what they say because they have the answers to our questions about the anthrax
4. they are the anthrax immunization program
9. if I were a parent I wouldn’t test my kid with anthra because I wouldn’t know what the out come is and If they would die or not
Good job!
Comment by Sherry February 10, 2012 @ 11:00 am2 Parents aren’t allowed to sacrifice or risk their children’s lifes because its morally wrong.
Comment by slauer February 9, 2012 @ 10:58 am3 We care because the comittie was elected by the government who we elected so they have authoirty given to them by the people we gave authority to.
7An arguement for testing would be that it could save millions of children across the world. A reason not to test it is because it could potentioally harm or kill the children it gets tested on.
8 I wouldn’t because I think I wouldnt trust an untested vaccine on my kid.
2. Parents are not allowed to risk their own kids because they should be doing what is best for their kids not everyone else. Parents are suspposed to be looking out for the best interests of children until they reach an age where they can make their own decisions.
Comment by Mac February 9, 2012 @ 12:33 pm3. We should care about these people’s opinion’s because they have been working with the vaccines the longest therefore they know what the negative effects better then anyone. These people are educated professionals, the U.S governments funds programs like this so that they have people who can make these decisions for us.
4. These people have authority from the U.S government which gets its authority from the people. We should listen to these people because they are professionals.
9. If I was a parent I would allow my child to get tested because it will only help. There is a very small chance of something going wrong.
Well done MAc! However, I disagree with your response to question 9. What if that very small chance of something going wrong happened to your son or daughter? Could you live with yourself?

2. I think the parents aren’t allowed to risk their kids for the good of others whenever they want to because there is a huge risk if the kids could die due to an exposure to a vaccine. If a kid was exposed to the vaccine then got seriously ill then it would cost money to heal the kid.
5. I think that Nicole Lurie felt that she should not make a decision because she doesn’t know what will happen if they exposes the vaccine into children. I think she is afraid that if the vaccine goes wrong in the children then she will get the blame for children dying and I don’t think she wants that happening. She has authority over the matter because she is the assistant secretary in charge of bioterrorism at the Department of Health and Human Services therefore she has authority. I believe that the president could overrule her or the people.
6. Yes the article tells you what reasons the working group gave for their conclusions, they figured out to have the vaccine tested on children would maybe cause deaths. If they continued to have the vaccine used on children they would have to figure out how many children would be studied, what ages and doses, and how costs would be covered. I think they decided to “not make a decision and kick the can down the road” because they were not completely aware of what would happen and wanted to “protect the children.”
Sherry, that Vocab was right on the dot! And your point in question 6 was amazing– why run that risk without knowing everything!
Comment by Tim Murphy March 9, 2012 @ 2:30 pm2) because when parents put their kids at risk in these situations they are jeprodizing their kids health and safely. this shouldnt be tKen lightly.
3) these people have the answers to the questions that we dont know about our health, so we should listen to learn what tp do and what not to do.
4) these
Comment by Will February 10, 2012 @ 11:12 am2.It is a big risk to experiment on kids because if something goes terribly wrong which is likely then the kid is going to die. This happened in the TV show fringe when they did the cortexiphan trials
Comment by Tony BRITTON February 10, 2012 @ 11:16 am3.Everyones opinion is necessary we live in a country where democracy is king therefore everyone should have a say in what is going on. I believe that if someone asked me about something then I would voice my opinion in a way that can help the world.
7. An argument could be that it could save a lot of people if this does infact work out this way. But a reason to not hold tests is that it could put the kids in danger because they end up getting hurt and killed in the process.
9. If I was a parent i wouldnt allow my child to be tested because I believe that my son would be harmed and I just dont want this to be an issue for me and my family
Tony your comments are excellent and very astute. Well done!
Comment by Nick Neville February 14, 2012 @ 11:03 am2. when you test your kids you qre putting their health at risk, so this shouldnt be taken lightly and shouldnt be done in general.
3. because they have the answers to our health problems ans what we need to do to stay healthy, so it is very important to listen.
4. they are the Nthrax immunization program and they know all about the anthrax virus, which not many people know about.
8. no because i dont want them to possibly jeprodize my kids health and wouldnt want anything to go wrong.

2. Parents are supposed to do what is in the best interest for their child, not to make their child susceptible to everyone else. Children are too young to make their own decisions at this age and their parents should in charge of what they do and why they do that.
3. We should listen to this group of people because they have been most experienced in this field and understand the consequences of their actions. If they are willing to hold themselves accountable for what they say and have data to prove their conclusions then we should listen to their opinions and take their advice.
9. If I were a parent I would allow my child as there is only an extremely small risk of something going wrong and these people are professionals at what they do so I should be able to have confidence in them and assuring myself that nothing will go wrong.
2: Parents aren’t allowed to risk their children at any time they want to because you dont always know what the outcome will be. although these tests could potentially be helpful, they could aslo be fatal. not olny could the vaccine kill the child it was being tested on, but it could do great harm to the one needing the vaccine.
Comment by Charlotte February 16, 2012 @ 1:04 pm5: i think Nicole Lurie didnt want to jump the gun by ordering the vaccines without a second opionion. she was worried for everyones safty and she didnt want to be the main cause if something did happen to someone. she was making the more responsible choice to go to her group and see what they thought about the vaccine and testing it on children.
8: No, i dont think many parents will let their children get tested because it still is very dangerous and could ruin their lives. even if it was partly safe, you still wouldnt know the full outcome of the vaccine.
9: if i were a parent i would not let my child get tested. i wouldnt want to take that risk, knowing there is a chance of death. never would i want my child to be harmed and this could be a spot for that to happen.

2. What would happen if their child got a chemical reaction with the substance they were testing on. What would happen if the child had to go to the hospital because of the experiments. What would happen if the child changed mentally or physically, this is what parents think about when they let their child to participate. They might get hurt and they dont want that to happen.
3. They know more than us and we have to listen to what he has to say. We have to give our opinion to this field, they are the most experienced and we have to give them a chance. They know the consequences with the procesuders so if they are responsible to what happens, its all on them.
4. They have authority from the U.S gov. and the people listen to the u.s gov. These guys are the most experienced so we have to listen to them.
5. She feels that she shouldnt make the decision because if something goes wrong with the child they are “experimenting” then it would be her fault that she affected him/her.
6. The article does show you the conclusions and it may cause some deaths. They would need to know how many children they need to test.
7. The medincine might work and save lives but the experiementation will cause a few deaths in the process to finding more and more cures in the world.
9. I would allow my child to take part in any experiments because i would be worried about his/her safety and like all parents or ( future parents ) i dont want anything to happen to my kid.

2. Parents should definetly not be allowed to put their children at risk like this. Parents have rights over their children til they are of age to legally make their own decisions so it is not fair. More over what kind of parent would put their own child, their own blood through that.
3. The reason is that they have to answer to our problems with our health making it extremely important to listen.
9. If I was a parent I would never even contemplate risking my child being hurt. If anything happned to my child I would never be able to live with myself. As a parent your duty is to protect your family at all costs and I completely follow that duty.

2. Parents should not be allowed to put their children at risk whenever they want to because it ethically is not their decision. As Bruce Lesley put it, “We don’t want to be subjecting kids to risks needlessly.” No matter what the cause is, a parent’s primary concern is the well-being of their son or daughter. If they believe that their child’s life is worth the risk then they are not fit to be parents. Especially if the risk of an anthrax attack is low, there is no apparent reason as to why a parent would subject their children to becoming lab rats in a dangerous biological warfare.
4. These 8 people have authority because they have devoted their entire lives to this matter. They have earned doctorates’ degree in this field and have weighed all options in the debate and believe that their conclusions should be respected. The 8 individuals have studied this debate and argued their scientifically backed up opinions. The article said, “After sifting through scientific, social, and ethical conundrums raised by this question, the eight member working group concluded that it would be ethically justifiable to conduct a study, which would provide crucial information, such as whether the vaccine is safe and how many doses would be needed” (Rob Stein). They have weighed the pros and cons and therefore have the right of authority on the matter.
9. If I were a parent, I would not allow my children to take place in this testing. I feel that any unnecessary risk. As a parent, my one job in this world is to raise my children to the best of my ability. Though John S. Bradley of the University of California at San Diego stated, “Our role is to protect children. If the military is telling us there is a credible threat, the best way to protect children is to have the data” (Stein), I would hate to have my child to be threatened with death by my decision. Even though scientists believe there is minimal risk, I could not imagine what I would do if my child had some freak reactions to the vaccine and was put in danger. There is always the possibility of danger; scientists and math cannot always account for everything. It would be safer to try on other subjects than to test on my baby boy or girl.
